There are so many free blogging platforms out there that you should not have to pay for one. Choose the one that is easy for you to manipulate. If you know a lot about XML then by all means go with Blogger.

The reason you have to manipulate is simple. Every blog should be different. Even down to the names of images and the colors on the template. This helps make your blog unique from the countless other blogs that are on the same platform.

Most people find a template that they like and use it with no modification. This is bad since it is not unique. Just like your content needs to be unique to get a higher rank, your html needs to be unique as well.

If it is not, it may just get buried amongst the billions of blogs out there today. You can choose to use a free blog site like Blogger.Com or Wordpress.Org, but the best choice you can make, is to have a completely unique blog. A sub domain blog will never be as good as a main domain blog.

Why have a Geocities website, when for a very small monthly fee, you can have your own domain and space on a server. It is worth spending that extra couple of dollars every month as it put more control in your hands.
